In brief: CCS men, women sweep


Sophomore post Matt Barnes (Shadle Park) led five players in double figures with 15 points Wednesday as Community Colleges of Spokane (10-4, 2-0) beat Wenatchee Valley (7-5, 1-1) 92-57 in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges men’s play.

Barnes shot 6 of 7 from the floor for the Sasquatch, who dashed to a 46-27 halftime lead by shooting 55 percent from the field.

Preston Wynne added 14 points, Chaz Johnson 13, and Danny Marshall and Marlowe Brim 12 apiece for CCS, which won its fifth consecutive game.

Women’s basketball

Sophomore forward Korrie Bourn finished with game highs of 23 points and nine rebounds while leading CC Spokane (12-2, 2-0 NWAACC) to a 75-55 win at Wenatchee Valley (7-7, 0-2).

Sophomore guard Brooke Randall added 21 points and four assists for the Sasquatch, who built a 29-point lead in the second half. Randall shot 4 of 6 on 3-pointers to lead CCS’ 8-for-17 night.

Rachel Lippert led the Knights with 13 points and eight rebounds.
