What the Central Valley construction bond would fund

 Central Valley School District’s proposed $69.9 million construction bond would include the following projects:

Evergreen Middle School: Expand and modernize the 1974 facility. The project would provide the district extra capacity to ease overcrowding at Greenacres Middle School.

New elementary school: The new school would be located at Mission Avenue and Long Road. It is expected to ease crowding at Greenacres and Liberty Lake elementary schools and would enable children attending the Kindergarten Center to return to their neighborhood schools.

Opportunity Elementary School: The 1968 facility would be expanded and modernized. The project would add elementary school capacity to ease crowding in schools on the west side of the district.

Ponderosa Elementary School: The facility, built in 1979, would be modernized, resolving structural problems in the building’s design to improve student safety and learning.

Greenacres Elementary School: The project would modernize the 1978 building. Structural problems in the building’s design would be resolved to improve student safety and learning.

Chester Elementary School: The facility, built in 1974, would be modernized and expanded, resolving structural problems in the building’s design to improve student safety and learning.

All schools: Access control, camera systems and a districtwide emergency notification system would be installed. The district’s production kitchen would be renovated.

 Total cost of the project would be $102.4 million, which would be offset by state matching funds of $32.8 million. The bond would increase the district’s tax rate by 65 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value in 2012.

 The bond initiative needs a supermajority – 60 percent – to pass.
