Area roundup: Cheney upsets East Valley
There’s no longer an unbeaten team in Great Northern League girls basketball.
The Cheney Blackhawks posted a decisive 53-41 victory over the visiting East Valley Knights on Saturday.
All of Sarah Benzel’s 12 points for Cheney (6-6, 2-3) came on four 3-pointers. Teammate Allie Brown had 12 rebounds and Mandy McDowell had five steals.
Amber Swyers led EV (8-5, 4-1) with 12 points.
The Knights are tied atop the league with idle Pullman (6-6, 4-1).
Clarkston 56, Deer Park 41: Jamie Weisner scored 27 points, nine in the third quarter, as the Bantams (8-4, 3-2) topped the host Stags (4-9, 0-5). Alison Ruygrok led DP with 14.
West Valley 62, Medical Lake 30: The Eagles (10-2, 4-1) used big first and third quarters to easily turn back the visiting Cardinals (5-9, 1-5). Hannah Love led WV with 18 points and Torrey Finn added 13. Amelia Cook led ML with 14.
Intermountain League
Timberlake 39, Priest River 32: University of Portland-bound Cassie Thompson had a game-high 20 points as the league-leading Tigers (11-3, 4-0) beat the visiting Spartans (3-9, 0-2) in a defensive tussle.
Kellogg 37, St. Maries 26: Marah Ashcraft scored 12 points to lead the visiting Wildcats (6-7, 1-2) past the Lumberjacks (3-8, 1-2).
North Star League
Clark Fork 41, Wallace 16: The Wampus Cats (7-5, 3-1) outscored the visiting Miners (5-7, 2-1) 14-1 in the third quarter. Dimi Kailang led Clark Fork with 13 points.
Bi-County 2B
Reardan 69, Davenport 29: Liz Flowers totaled 18 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two assists as the Indians (11-2, 9-0) handled the host Gorillas (5-7, 4-4). Miranda Mielke had 23 points for the Gorillas.
Northwest Christian 37, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 24: The Crusaders made their free throws late to hold back the visiting Broncos. Hannah Dietzen led Northwest Christian with 12 points and Maria Guske and Amelia Fairburn had six rebounds each.
Liberty 66, Springdale 37: Ally Tee scored 14 points to lead the Lancers (5-8, 4-5) past the visiting Chargers (0-12, 0-9). Taylor Smith led Springdale with 12.
Colfax 42, St. George’s 15: The Bulldogs (5-6, 4-3) opened 15-2 in the first quarter over the Dragons (1-11, 1-7) and cruised thereafter at home. Amelie Bruya led Colfax with 14 points.
Bi-County 1B
Wilbur-Creston 33, Valley Christian 26: The Wildcats (6-6, 1-2) posted their first league win since Jan. 26, 2008, in the win over the visiting Panthers (6-7, 1-2). Maggie Douglas had 11 rebounds to lead W-C.
Odessa-Harrington 76, St. Michael’s 21: Lacey Hirst had a game-high 28 points to lead the visiting Titans (6-8, 3-1) past the Warriors (1-8, 0-2).
Panorama League
Curlew 57, Inchelium 34: Chanel Somday scored 13 of her 19 points in the first half as the visiting Cougars (5-8, 2-5) topped the Hornets (2-8, 0-6).
Selkirk 66, Wellpinit 39: Annie Couch led the Rangers (12-3, 6-2) with 17 points in the win over the host Redskins (7-7, 4-3). Lauren Flett led Wellpinit with 10.
Southeast 1B
Garfield-Palouse 47, LaCrosse-Washtucna 23: The Vikings (6-6, 3-5) jumped out to a 20-11 lead by halftime in the win over the visiting Tigercats (1-12, 0-8). Taylor Redman scored 15 points and Kaycia Adair had 10 rebounds for the Vikings.
Rosalia 46, Touchet 29: Briann Maley scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Spartans (10-4, 5-3) past the host Indians (3-8, 2-6).
St. John-Endicott 68, Tekoa-Oakesdale 49: Gretchen Van Lith scored a game-high 25 points, hitting 11 of 16 field goals, as the visiting Eagles (12-1, 7-1) topped the Nighthawks (5-8, 2-6). Teammate Erin Schuster had 10 rebounds leading a 39-23 advantage on the boards. Alexandria Overton led the Nighthawks with 27 points.
Colton 67, Pomeroy 42: The visiting Wildcats (12-1, 7-0) raced to a 26-3 lead in the first quarter. Haley Moser led Colton with 14 points and Mollie Kramer and Jenna Moser had 13 apiece. HayLee Koller led the Pirates (10-3, 5-3) with 16.

Mt. Spokane 60, Post Falls 51: The Wildcats (5-7) hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter and then secured the victory by making 6 of 7 foul shots in the fourth quarter. Megan Nelson led Mt. Spokane with 15 points and eight rebounds. Brooke Litalien, who made six 3-pointers, finished with 23 points for visiting Post Falls (6-11).
Columbia 48, Republic 46: Elizabeth Larrew made a layup with 17 seconds left to lift the visiting Lions (15-0) past the Tigers (8-8). JulieAnn Larrew led the Lions with 14 points. Tori Orestad and Alyssa Stout each had 11 for the Tigers.
Sandpoint 55, Bonners Ferry 42: The visiting Bulldogs (7-9) made 14 of 18 foul shots in the final quarter to seal the win. Maggie Kirscher led Sandpoint with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Amanda Riley led BF (2-11) with 13 points.
