Area men’s basketball: No. 3 Pirates win again

David Riley poured in a game-high 27 points, Mike Taylor added 22 points and five assists and the third-ranked Whitworth Pirates rolled to an 84-70 victory over the Willamette Bearcats in Northwest Conference play Saturday in Salem, Ore.

Jack Loofburrow came off the bench to score 13 and reel in a game-high 10 rebounds for undefeated Whitworth (15-0, 6-0).

Terrell Malley led Willamette (4-11, 1-5) with 22 points – 12 coming at the free-throw line.

Taylor Mounts chipped in 20 points and eight rebounds.

The game featured 53 fouls – with the Pirates’ Wade Gebbers and Clay Gebbers fouling out – and 66 free throws.

Yakima Valley 81, CC Spokane 73: Ryan Dornik tossed in a game-high 24 points and Jordan Hill came off the bench to score 22 to propel the Yaks (8-6, 1-2) to a victory over the Sasquatch (10-5, 2-1) in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges action in Yakima.

Preston Wynne hit four 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 21 points for the Sasquatch.

North Idaho 81, Colorado Northwestern 62: Anthony Diloreto tallied 17 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots to power the Cardinals (16-3, 2-3) to a victory over the visiting Spartans (6-13, 0-5).

Idris Lasisi came off the bench to score 12 on 5-of-6 shooting and Michael Hale III added 10 points and six assists for North Idaho, which led 36-21 at halftime.
