Chiefs in first place after beating Everett

Spokane pulls even with Portland

EVERETT, Wash. — The Spokane Chiefs scored three times in the first 3 minutes, 8 seconds of the game and cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Everett Silvertips on Sunday night in Western Hockey League action.

Spokane opened the scoring just 1:11 into the game on a delayed goal. Jared Cowen’s shot was so hard it went straight through the net, causing play to continue. The play was reviewed at the next whistle and the goal was awarded.

Tyler Johnson made it 2-0 just 17 seconds later, and Dominik Uher scored on the power play at 3:08 to complete a quick start for the Chiefs.

Matt Marantz later added a goal and James Reid made 32 saves in goal for Spokane (27-11-5), which moved into a tie for first place with Portland in the Western Conference. The Chiefs, however, have two games in hand.

Ryan Harrison scored the lone goal for Everett (18-21-6).
