In brief: Four ejected in Clippers’ win over Lakers

NBA: Eric Gordon scored 30 points, Blake Griffin had 18 points and 15 rebounds after a foul-plagued start, and the Los Angeles Clippers snapped the visiting Los Angeles Lakers’ seven-game winning streak with a 99-92 victory Sunday.

Four players were ejected from this crosstown rivalry game after a scuffle under the basket with 5.7 seconds to play.

After Lamar Odom grabbed Griffin’s jersey while fighting for a rebound, Baron Davis intervened and shoved Odom firmly in the chest, leading to more shoves. Odom, Griffin, Davis and Ron Artest all were ejected after the officials conferenced.

Kobe Bryant had 27 points and nine rebounds, and Andrew Bynum added 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Lakers, who couldn’t keep up with the young Clippers in the fourth quarter.

• Parker’s 30 pushes Spurs over ’Melo, Nuggets: Tony Parker scored 30 points for San Antonio, Carmelo Anthony labored through a rough game as rumors of an imminent trade slightly cooled, and the Spurs beat the visiting Denver Nuggets 110-97.

Anthony may have more games in a Nuggets uniform yet. Coach George Karl said before tip-off he wasn’t aware of any drastic changes, and New Jesey Nets coach Avery Johnson also tried quieting rumors of an upcoming deal.

Talks of a blockbuster trade that would ship Anthony to the Nets have lately intensified. Pressed about the possibility Sunday, Johnson said the Nets’ roster won’t budge between now and Friday, the New Jersey Star-Ledger reported.

Anthony, upbeat before the game, scored 12 points on just 5-of-17 shooting.

The NBA-best Spurs (35-6) won their sixth in a row.

St. John’s takes No. 9 Notre Dame by storm

College Basketball: D.J. Kennedy and Malik Boothe both scored 14 points and St. John’s beat No. 9 Notre Dame 72-54, reversing the outcome of their game eight days ago.

St. John’s held the Irish to a school-record low four field goals in the opening 20 minutes.

Things didn’t change much in the second half as St. John’s continued to play strong perimeter defense.

• Jones leads Mountaineers past No. 8 Purdue: Kevin Jones scored 17 points and West Virginia used a late 18-6 run to hold off No. 8 Purdue 68-64 in Morgantown, W.Va.

John Flowers added 15 points, Truck Bryant scored 12 and Joe Mazzulla had 10 for West Virginia (12-4).

Purdue’s JaJuan Johnson scored 26 points, E’Twaun Moore added 14 and Lewis Jackson scored 10.

• Buckeyes women trip No. 9 Spartans: In Columbus, Ohio, Jantel Lavender had 24 points and No. 24 Ohio State broke out of a slump to beat No. 9 Michigan State 67-53.

Late goals lift Capitals over Senators

NHL: John Carlson and Brooks Laich scored in a 45-second span in the third period to help the Washington Capitals rally for a 3-1 victory over the visiting Ottawa Senators.

Jason Chimera scored Washington’s other goal, later in the third period, and goalie Michal Neuvirth finished with 22 saves.

The Capitals trailed for most of the game after Mike Fisher gave Ottawa a quick lead with his goal just 72 seconds into the contest. He scored after Washington couldn’t clear a loose puck.

That lead held up into the third period when Alex Ovechkin and Laich combined to help get the tying goal.

• Flyers hold off Rangers: Ville Leino had a goal and an assist in the first period, and Mike Richards added a short-handed tally in the second for the visiting Philadelphia Flyers, who held on for a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers.

Brian Boucher made 34 saves, but wasn’t severely challenged until the Rangers staged another third-period comeback try. He fell short of his 18th NHL shutout when Wojtek Wolski scored with 10:29 remaining. Derek Stepan brought New York within a goal 2:24 later.

Hamilton’s week-long hospital stay ends

MLB: A.L. MVP Josh Hamilton is out of the hospital.

The Texas Rangers said in a statement that their slugging outfielder was discharged from the Medical Center of Arlington, Texas, five days after he was admitted for treatment of an early case of pneumonia.

Hamilton was diagnosed Monday with an early case of pneumonia and was hospitalized Tuesday morning.

• A’s, Fuentes agree on 2-year deal: The Oakland Athletics have made another move to boost their bullpen, agreeing to terms with free-agent lefty reliever Brian Fuentes on a two-year contract, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.

Fuentes still must pass a physical before he signs. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no formal announcement had been made.

The 35-year-old Fuentes was 4-1 with 24 saves and a 2.81 ERA in 48 appearances and 48 innings with the Los Angeles Angels and Minnesota Twins in 2010.

Miscellany: Ryan Lochte beat Michael Phelps in the 200-meter individual medley in the last of their head-to-head showdown in the Austin Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.

Lochte finished in 1 minute, 59.26 seconds, well off his world record of 1:54:10. Phelps was third.

Eric Shanteau edged Phelps to finish second in 2:01:13.

• CONCACAF will lobby for fourth spot in World Cup: CONCACAF will lobby for a guaranteed fourth spot in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The soccer organization’s executive committee said Sunday that CONCACAF – the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football – has earned the right to increase its allotment of World Cup slots from 3 1/2. A decision is expected at a meeting of the FIFA executive committee in March.

Germans finish 1-2 in World Cup bobsled race: In Igls, Austria, Manuel Machata led a 1-2 German finish in the World Cup four-man bobsled race Sunday and Olympic champion Steven Holcomb of the United States took third.

Machata’s team of Richard Adjei, Andreas Bredau and Christian Poser posted the fastest second-run time for an aggregate 1 minute, 42.92 seconds.

• Kostelic wins men’s World Cup slalom: Ivica Kostelic of Croatia extended his runaway start to 2011, winning a men’s World Cup slalom on the Lauberhorn course in Wengen, Switzerland.

Kostelic had a combined two-run time of 1 minute, 45.28 seconds to stretch his lead in the World Cup overall standings.

The women’s World Cup slalom race was called off less than two hours before its scheduled start because warm weather damaged the Pohorje course. FIS has yet to decide if the races will be rescheduled.
