Holiday affects services

Here’s what’s open and closed today for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday:

Public agencies: Federal, state, county and city offices, schools and courts will be closed. This includes SCRAPS, the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service. The Spokane City Council briefing session and legislative meeting will be held Tuesday – at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively – in the council chambers.

Parking: Meters do not have to be plugged in downtown Spokane.

Mail: Post office branches will be closed, and mail will not be delivered.

Libraries: Spokane Public Library branches and the Coeur d’Alene Public Library are closed.

Garbage pickup: Garbage and recycling collection will be on normal schedules in Spokane and Kootenai counties. The Waste-to-Energy Plant and transfer stations in both counties will be open.

Liquor stores: State-run liquor stores in Washington and Idaho will be open regular hours.

Banks: Most banks will be closed.

Markets: U.S. financial markets will be closed.

Riverfront Park: The Ice Palace, Imax Theater, Spokane Falls Skyride and Looff Carrousel will be open.
