Griffin’s 47 power Clips past Pacers

NBA: Blake Griffin had a career-high 47 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for his 27th consecutive double-double, and the Los Angeles Clippers rallied to beat the visiting Indiana Pacers 114-107 on Monday.

It was Griffin’s 33rd double-double of his rookie season, and his 19 field goals made were a career best.

Danny Granger scored 32 points, making 10 of 11 free throws, and Darren Collison added 30 points and eight assists for the Pacers.

• Pistons rout Nowitzki, Mavericks: In Auburn Hills, Mich., Rodney Stuckey scored 20 points, and the Detroit Pistons sent the Dallas Mavericks to their sixth consecutive loss, 103-89.

Dirk Nowitzki scored 32 points for Dallas in his second game back from a sprained right knee.

• Aldridge’s career-high leads Blazers past T-Wolves: LaMarcus Aldridge scored a career-high 37 points and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves 113-102.

Wesley Matthews scored 23 points for Portland. Darko Milicic and Kevin Love each scored 22 points to lead Minnesota.

• Bryant, Gasol pace Lakers past Thunder: Pau Gasol scored 21 points, Kobe Bryant added 21 and seven assists – though he missed three last-minute free throws – and the Los Angeles Lakers held off the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder 101-94.

Thunder guard Russell Westbrook had 32 points and 12 assists.

Pitt starts with 19-0 run, beats Orange

College basketball: Pittsburgh scored the first 19 points only to lose the lead, then came back behind Nasir Robinson’s 21 points to hand visiting No. 3 Syracuse its first loss, 74-66.

Brad Wanamaker added 15 points to help the fifth-ranked Panthers (18-1) improve to 6-0 in the Big East for the first time and halt a long Syracuse winning streak for the second straight season.

• Walker gives UConn win over ’Nova: In Storrs, Conn., Kemba Walker hit a driving shot down the lane with 2.5 seconds to play to give No. 8 Connecticut a 61-59 victory over No. 7 Villanova, snapping the Wildcats’ 11-game winning streak.

Walker, who entered the game as the nation’s second-leading scorer with a 25.6 average, scored the Huskies’ last seven points.

• Ohio State is new No. 1 after Duke loses: Ohio State (18-0) moved up one spot to replace Duke in the AP Top 25 poll.

The Buckeyes received 49 first-place votes. Kansas, which was No. 1 on six ballots, and Syracuse, which got eight first-place votes, each moved up one spot to second and third.

Duke dropped to fourth.

• No. 2 Connecticut women roll past UNC: In Chapel Hill, N.C., Tiffany Hayes scored 29 points to help the Connecticut women roll past 10th-ranked North Carolina 83-57, routing the Tar Heels for the third straight season. Maya Moore added 26 for the Huskies (17-1).

• Baylor stays atop AP women’s Top 25 poll: Baylor remains No. 1 as it keeps running through opponents.

The Lady Bears received 25 first-place votes in the women’s college basketball poll by the Associated Press.

UConn stayed second with Duke, Stanford and Tennessee completing the first five.

Subban’s OT goal saves Canadiens’ win

NHL: P.K. Subban scored 1:06 into overtime and the Montreal Canadiens recovered after blowing a four-goal lead to win 5-4 over the visiting Calgary Flames.

Subban took Scott Gomez’s pass and beat Henrik Karlsson with a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle for the winner.

• Bruins dominate Hurricanes: Zdeno Chara had his first career three-goal game and Tim Thomas stopped 31 shots for his seventh shutout to lift the Boston Bruins to a 7-0 win over the visiting Carolina Hurricanes.

• Thrashers rally to beat Panthers in shootout: In Sunrise, Fla., Bryan Little and Alexander Burmistrov scored in the shootout and the Atlanta Thrashers rallied from a late two-goal deficit to beat the Florida Panthers 3-2.

Atlanta won the shootout 2-1, clinching the victory when Ondrej Pavelec stopped Cory Stillman’s wrist shot on Florida’s third attempt.

NASCAR may scrap points system

Auto Racing: NASCAR is considering scrapping the points system it has used since 1975 in favor of a simpler method that awards points per finishing position.

The sanctioning body wants to go to a scoring system that would award 43 points to the race winner, and one point less for each ensuing position down to one point for the 43rd-place finisher.
