Former state champion Shawn Burton (285 pounds) scored four consecutive points in the third period to knock off Aaron Christensen 4-0 and the host Deer Park Stags (4-0) won 13 of their 14 matches to demolish the previously unbeaten East Valley Knights (3-1) 55-4 in their Great Northern League wrestling dual Tuesday.
The Stags won five of their matches by pins, including Shawn Konzal at 103 pounds, who won his first GNL match with a fall in 1:49.
Deer Park remains as the last undefeated team in the league.
In another GNL dual, Eric Brent (130 pounds) defeated Dominick Huey 6-5 to start a run of five wins in six matches for Clarkston (1-2) in the Bantams’ 42-24 victory over host Medical Lake (1-3).
Helping the Cardinals try and claw their way back was Tim Haynes at 171 pounds. Haynes went into overtime against Brock Beeler tied 1-1, putting Beeler on his back for four points and giving him the 5-1 decision.
Sandpoint native Nate Holland was awarded the bronze medal in Snowboardcross at the FIS World Snowboard Championships in La Molina, Spain.
Alex Pullin of Australia won the event and Seth Wescott of Sugarloaf, Maine, finished second.
