In brief: Pro athlete pitches in at CYTs fundraiser
SPOKANE VALLEY – The Christian Youth Theatre will feature an evening with San Francisco Giants pitcher Jeremy Affeldt tonight at the Lincoln Center, 1316 N. Lincoln St.
The Spokane native will begin the evening at 6:45 p.m. with a VIP reception. The reception includes refreshments, a photo opportunity and an autograph signing with Affeldt. Tickets for the VIP reception are $75 per person and also includes entry into the main program.
At 7:30 p.m., Affeldt will give a presentation and Christian Youth Theatre performers will make an appearance. A silent auction will feature 2010 World Series baseballs autographed by Affeldt, along with additional San Francisco Giants items. Tickets are $35 per person to the 7:30 event.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Christian Youth Theater Spokane.

Help fill truck for Dump Hunger
SPOKANE – Western States Equipment, Albertsons, Les Schwab Tire Centers and Second Harvest Food will hold a Dump Hunger food collection campaign through Feb. 7.
On Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., a huge dump truck will be at the Albertsons at Trent and Argonne, ready to be filled with nonperishable food items. A full truck is equivalent to 225,000 pounds of food.
Collection bins will also be placed at all Spokane Western States, Albertsons and Les Schwab locations through Feb. 7.

Souper Bowl seeks skiers, snowshoers
MOUNT SPOKANE – The sixth annual Women’s Souper Bowl snowshoe and cross-country ski event will be at Mount Spokane’s Selkirk Lodge on Feb. 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant.
The annual event features snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, an all-women cross-country ski race, along with a hot meal after the race, including three soups, fresh-baked rolls, and cookies prepared by the restaurant.
A $25 minimum donation is suggested to participate in the event. Proceeds will support the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant, a community resource that provides nutritious meals in a safe and supportive atmosphere.
