Luna plan fails students

When I read the article about “pitching the reform” by Idaho Schools Superintendent Tom Luna, I could barely believe my eyes. The concentration of arrogance by that “public servant” was just too high.

Simply speaking, in exchange for bigger class sizes, the students in Idaho public schools should get laptops in the ninth grade and online courses. And this is called a benefit for students?

I hope that approach will not get through, but if it did, who would benefit in reality? Chinese manufacturers of laptops and Indian (very possibly) creators of online courses. And yes, some local peddlers of them. And, of course, Republican politicians who put Mr. Luna (clearly absolutely unqualified to be even close to education) into his position, but certainly not the students in Idaho.

Students need live teachers, not laptops or online classes, and we should spend our resources on our American people, in this case our American teachers, not Chinese manufacturers or Indian software vendors.

As for the students, the gadgets will not give them education, they will give them more detachment from reality. I think they already have enough of that.
