Filed Former star pitcher Roger Clemens asked a Washington judge to dismiss his indictment on charges of obstructing a congressional investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs in baseball. A motion filed Friday evening by Clemens’ attorneys argues the indictment is vague and contains too many separate accusations of lying in one count.

Started A pivotal hearing is under way to determine what evidence will be admitted during Barry Bonds’ perjury trial in March. The results of the hearing in San Francisco federal court and a similar hearing next month will dramatically shape the trial. U.S. District Judge Susan Illston will decide whether prosecutors can show the jury a trove of evidence connected to Bonds’ personal trainer.

Ruled A Texas appeals court in Lubbock threw out former football coach Mike Leach’s breach of contract claim against Texas Tech, though it said he could still pursue non-monetary claims against the school over his controversial 2009 firing. University attorneys had argued that Leach could not sue the school because Texas Tech is a state entity with sovereign immunity, meaning it can only be sued with permission from the state Legislature or a waiver based on a defendant’s conduct.

Claimed Cyclist Lance Armstrong says he will be vindicated by a U.S. Anti-Doping Agency investigation of claims raised by a report in Sports Illustrated. Armstrong used Twitter to suggest that USADA may probe allegations published by the magazine this week in an article entitled “The Case Against Lance Armstrong.”

Fined The NHL fined Los Angeles Kings general manager Dean Lombardi $50,000 for his comments questioning the integrity of league vice president Mike Murphy. Lombardi was upset after a disputed goal was allowed to stand during his team’s loss to Phoenix on Thursday.

Injured Former world champion hurdler Stephane Diagana of France was hit by a car while riding his bike in the Nice region near Paris. He suffered a serious head injury, but his life is not in danger.

Extended The Chicago White Sox picked up their 2012 option on manager Ozzie Guillen’s contract. Guillen has a 600-535 record in eight seasons as manager.
