Teachers nationally certified

The West Valley School District has announced three teachers who have earned National Board Certification.

They are Diane Nations and Brian Hickman from Centennial Middle School and Lisa Mularsky from Pasadena Park Elementary School.

Essay contest winners

Valley Christian School has announced the names of nine students who have been recognized for their writing in four contests.

In the DAR American History Essay Contest, seventh-grader Taylor Kempf and eighth-grader Megan Oliver have been chosen as winners. They will be recognized during a DAR Chapter meeting Feb. 5 at 9 a.m. at Shari’s Restaurant.

Callie Johnson, a senior, took second place in the local Veterans of Foreign Wars essay contest for her essay, “Does My Generation Have a Role in America’s Future?”

Jasmine Ayala, Hanna Kresse, Peyton Puryear, Levi Smith and Alina Tsyukalo, all seniors, were recently published in the fall Creative Communications essay contest.

Kresse’s poem, “Chalk in my Hand, the World at my Feet,” was chosen to be published in the fall Creative Communications poetry contest.
