Women’s basketball roundup: EWU blasts Sac St.

Brianne Ryan hit 14 of 18 shots from the floor, scoring a game-high 33 points and Eastern Washington (8-9, 4-1) outscored Sacramento State (3-16, 0-6) 54-33 in the first half and cruised to a 98-70 victory in Big Sky action Saturday in Cheney.

The Eagles shot 53.7 percent in the first half, including making 5 of 10 from the 3-point line against the Hornets.

Kylie Kuhns scored 23 points to lead Sac State, adding nine rebounds, but the Eagles held the Hornets to just 33.3 percent shooting as a team and forced 21 turnovers.

Arizona 64, Washington State 58: Ify Ibekwe tallied 18 points and Davellyn Whyte scored 16 to help lead the Wildcats to a win over the Cougars in Pac-10 play in Tucson, Ariz.

Ibekwe added 12 rebounds and eight steals, which left her two steals shy of recording the first triple-double for the Wildcats (13-5, 4-3).

Ireti Amojo had a game-high 21 points, 15 coming from 3-pointers for the Cougars (5-15, 3-5).

After trailing 32-16 at halftime, the Cougars closed within 37-31 five minutes into the second half, but Arizona staved off any major threat, once again gaining a double-digit lead midway through the half behind White.

Arizona State 52, Washington 49: Dymond Simon scored 13 points and Kali Bennett blocked a 3-point shot with 7 seconds left to help the Sun Devils get past the Huskies in Pac-10 action in Tempe, Ariz.

Simon added three assists and five steals for the Sun Devils (12-5, 4-3) as well as a free throw with 18 seconds left that put the Sun Devils up by three points.

The Huskies (7-10, 2-6) had the ball with 23 seconds left but failed to get it inbounds.

Kristi Kingma finished with 14 points on 6-of-19 shooting for the Huskies.

Kingma, the league’s fifth-leading scorer, tried to get off a 3-pointer for the Huskies in the final seconds but it was blocked by 6-foot-5 Bennett, who transferred from Washington after her freshman year.

Idaho 68, Boise State 48: Rachele Kloke scored 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting to lead three Idaho players in double figures as the Vandals (10-7, 3-2) shot 52 percent in the second half to top the Broncos (11-8, 2-3) in WAC play in Moscow.

The Broncos shot just 36.7 percent from the floor for the game and rarely got second-chance opportunities as Idaho controlled the boards 36-27.

Derisa Taleni added 14 points and Yinka Olorunnife 13 points and six rebounds for the Vandals.

North Idaho 103, Snow 55: Kama Griffitts went 6 of 11 from the field and finished with a game-high 20 and the Cardinals (19-2, 5-2) crushed the Badgers (13-7, 2-4) in SWAC play in Coeur d’Alene.

Camille Reynolds added 16 points and Tucge Canitez had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Cardinals, who led start to finish, building their lead to as high as 48 in the game.

NIC shot 60.3 percent from the field, including going 12 of 23 from the 3-point line.

CC Spokane 73, Blue Mountain 65: Brooke Randall finished with 21 points, hitting 12 of 14 shots from the free-throw line, and the Sasquatch (15-2, 5-0) ran their league winning streak to five games with a victory over the visiting Timberwolves (10-7, 2-3) in NWAACC play.

The Sasquatch forced 21 turnovers in the game, outscoring the Timberwolves 26-5 off turnovers. Amanda Buttrey had 17 points and Korrie Bourn added 13 points and nine boards for the Sasquatch.
