Fear-driven discourse

A CBS poll found out that 69 percent of Republicans, 49 percent of the Democrats and 56 percent of independents do not believe that the bitterness of recent political issues was a cause for the assassination attempt of Rep. Giffords of Arizona and the murder of local residents. Even so, we must get back to facts and reason instead using anger, hate and fear to dominate our political speech.

For instance, the Republican Party wants to get rid of Obama’s health care program, saying it’s a “job killer,” but they won’t say how. Republicans campaigned on jobs but now want to cut the federal deficit, saying it is too large, but they never say how or where to cut the federal deficit. Either way, people are going to lose their jobs.

Historically, our national unemployment rate has averaged around 5.7 percent. It has been said that if we go from the current 9.4 percent back to the national average of 5.7 percent we could reduce the national deficit by 40 percent. So call your Republican 5th District Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and ask her to stop worrying about the deficit and start creating jobs.
