Give it a week or so before you head to HaHa

You’ll have to hold on for a taste of HaHa’s Grill House.

Owner and chef John Ha says the restaurant will be closed for another week or so while contractors are fixing water damage caused by a broken pipe. The restaurant was listed in last week’s Food section among places to try Korean dishes.

Ha describes the fare at HaHa’s Grill House as a fresh, modern take on traditional Korean fare he learned from his mother. He uses fresh ingredients, organic when available.

Among the traditional Korean fare, Ha serves kimchi soup with prawns and vegetables, and bean paste soup with prawns, vegetables, enoki mushrooms and tofu.

Entrees include kalbi (marinated and grilled beef short ribs), daeji builgogi (spicy marinated pork), bibim bap (vegetables, egg and shiitake mushrooms served with rice and Korean sauce) and bibim jjol myun (vegetables, egg, cold Korean noodles and spicy Korean sauce).

The menu also ventures into some fusion food. The Garland Burger is Korean marinated beef topped with lettuce, tomato and coleslaw. HaHa’s pulled pork is described on the menu as fusion barbecue pork topped with caramelized onions. There is a tofu salad served with Korean dressing.

Ha Ha’s Grill House is located at 2710 W. Garland Ave. It is open 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Ha is posting construction and reopening updates on the restaurant’s Facebook page. Or call (509) 483-1399.

Masselow’s wins AAA Four Diamond award

Masselow’s Restaurant at the Northern Quest Casino announced it has received the AAA Four Diamond Award for 2011.

To apply for the award, the restaurant had to meet 27 requirements. Then it received a full review from AAA, complete with a surprise visit from evaluators. The diamond ratings look for first-class dining, services, amenities and décor.

The fine-dining restaurant becomes one of six Washington restaurants to receive the award, and the only one in Eastern Washington. Beverly’s at the Coeur d’Alene Resort received the award in 1989.

The only restaurant in Washington to earn the higher AAA Five Diamond Award is The Herbfarm Restaurant in Woodinville.

Watch next week’s Food section for our review of Masselow’s, including an interview with chef Bob Rogers.
