Wrong time for CV bond

The Central Valley School Board is asking for $69 million in new property taxes. Let’s be clear that no matter how they try to disguise it, the $69 million dollars are new taxes that property owners in the Central Valley School District will be paying for the next 20 years. For many people that means that not only will we be paying it, but our children will also be paying it.

Existing bonds, levies and state property taxes already account for over 50 percent of your property tax burden. We’ve just suffered the worst recession since the Depression. How dare the Central Valley School District ask for more taxes now?

In spite of the fact, many people have lost their jobs and are facing foreclosure. People continue to file for unemployment, and more people than ever are having to use food banks and other community resources. In spite of those things, schools have the audacity to try to gouge taxpayers by raising taxes. Like taxpayers that have been hard hit by the recession, schools must learn to live within their means. They must learn to do more with less.

Enough is enough. Vote “no” on these new taxes.
