Greenacres Baptist celebrates 40th year

The congregation of Greenacres Baptist Church will celebrate the church’s 40th anniversary on Sunday, and the community is invited.

The church will have Sunday school classes at 9:45 a.m. followed by the morning service at 11 a.m. A potluck fellowship meal will begin at noon. The church will provide the main dish and beverages; those attending are asked to bring a salad or side dish to share. A discipleship study at 6 p.m. and the evening service at 7 are open to everyone.

The Southern Baptist church was founded by the Rev. Wayne Scott Creach, who was killed by a Spokane Valley police officer on Aug. 25. It is now led by the Rev. Eric Walsh, who had been hired from Tennessee as the church’s associate pastor eight months before Creach died.

Greenacres Baptist is at 18620 E. Sprague Ave.

Summer camp auction

Christ Lutheran Church will host a spaghetti and meatball dinner and auction next Saturday to help send children to summer camp at Lutherhaven. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for the silent auction and the meal will be served at 5. A live auction will follow until 9 p.m.

The cost is $5 per person or $15 per family. Last year’s auction, which is put on by several Valley Lutheran churches, raised $11,000.

Spaghetti dinner

St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 503 N. Walnut Road, will host its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The menu also includes meatballs, salad, rolls, coffee, milk and dessert. The cost is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for children ages 6 to 12. It is Free for children 6 and younger.

Music in Millwood

Millwood Presbyterian Church will host a free concert featuring Spokane Symphony musicians at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Pianist Rachelle Ventura, cellist Louise Butler, viola player Chari Bickford, violinist David Armstrong, horn player Jennifer Scriggins Brummett, and clarinetist Dan Cotter will be performing compositions by Dohnanyi, Debussy and Barboteu.

Those attending are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the food bank. The church is at 3223 N. Marguerite Road.
