Payano K’s nine as Indians win

PASCO – Victor Payano struck out nine over six scoreless innings and Rougned Odor went 3 for 3 with an RBI as the Spokane Indians avoided a three-game sweep by beating the Tri-City Dust Devils 3-2 on Sunday.

Payano (1-1) allowed just one hit – a fifth-inning single – and walked a batter before the bullpen took over. Samuel Robinson allowed Richard Pirkle’s two-run home run over two innings of work, and Francisco Mendoza walked two batters in the ninth but struck out the side for his first save.

The Indians (9-8) took the lead in the third inning. With runners on second and third, Zachary Cone drove in Spokane’s first run on a groundout.

Spokane extended the lead in the seventh. With the bases loaded, Odor’s single to center field drove in Carson Vitale. After a force out at home, Drew Robinson walked with the bases loaded.

The Indians open an eight-game homestand tonight against Tri-City.
