Conservation watered down

Our “green” city management is giving conservation a bad reputation.

The new water rates are a repressive taxation on property owners. It is a gross misrepresentation to say it is about conservation.

If conservation of water is the point, regardless of the lack of science indicating any shortage of water in our aquifer, why not alternate days, odd/even house numbers, or simply a 1 percent rebate for any billable cycle with reduced rates year to year? These are honest conservation measures.

Instead, conservation gets a black eye, and I get a near doubling in my water bill. I have drip systems where appropriate. I have automated stations to control water to specific “thirsty” areas versus shady areas. I already paid more for using more. Now, I am actually afraid of the uncertainty of my water bill.

After 20 years in my home, I am considering moving outside the city of Spokane. Maybe somebody is going to see a rate reduction, but watch out, northwest Spokane, you won’t believe the water bills coming your way.

I sure am glad that the time is coming to say “no” to the incumbents on the council. You lost my conservation vote.
