Crews respond to brush fire in west Spokane

Crews from Spokane County Fire District 10 and the state Department of Natural Resources are on the scene of a small brush fire in west Spokane. The fire was reported at 4:38 p.m. and is burning on 1 to 2 acres of grass and timber near Greenwood and Goverment Way, in the vicinity of Greenwood Memorial Terrace and Riverside Memorial Park. About 20 firefighters are on scene and more are en route, a spokesman said. Additionally, aircraft are flying overhead and dumping water on the blaze, which is burning on a hillside. No homes are threatened at this time. Fire investigators are believe the fire may be suspicious in origin, given another fire was reported nearby in People’s Park at about the same time.
