Candidates weigh in
What candidates for City Council president are saying about proposals to eliminate or significantly cut senior and youth center funding:
• Steve Corker , City Council member, board member of Corbin Senior Activity Center and Northeast Youth Center:
“I’m not surprised with cuts. I am surprised with the amount of cuts. That’s devastating.”
• Ben Stuckart , executive director of Communities in Schools of Spokane County:
“Our senior centers are one of the strengths of our community, and youth programs have been cut for years and years. I just don’t think that’s a good long-term vision for our community.”
• Dennis Hession , former mayor, former Park Board president:
“I would strongly encourage them to figure out a way to preserve them because a lot of people depend on them for a significant part of their life experience as they age or if they are low income.”
