Notebook: Several churches offer vacation Bible school

Area churches are gathering children for fun and Bible lessons now that summer is in full swing. Here are some of the churches beginning vacation Bible school programs this week.

Audubon Park United Methodist Church, 3908 N. Driscoll Blvd., will present an Island Odyssey Adventure Monday through July 29 at 5 p.m.

Kids in kindergarten through the sixth grade are invited to move and groove to the sights and sounds of the islands – there will be music, Bible study, crafts and fun.

The Unity Center of North Spokane, 4123 E. Lincoln Road, will host Adventures in Peacemaking, a summer day camp for kids ages 4 through 12, Monday through July 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Activities will include crafts, learning exercises in peaceful conflict resolution and skills for cultivating inner peace.

The event is co-sponsored by One Peace, Many Paths.

Trinity Baptist Church, 6528 N. Monroe St., will host Gold Rush Vacation Bible School Monday at 6 p.m.

The event will include games, Bible stories, crafts, snacks and drama.

Children ages 3 years old through the sixth grade are invited to attend.

Outdoor concert

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 N. Indian Trail Road, will present the final concert of its summer series Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The music will be provided by the Cronkites and the evening will include a car show. Car enthusiasts are invited to enter their hot rods or classic cars for a $5 entry fee. The car show begins at 6 p.m.

Buddhist speaker

Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., will present Honorable Thubten Chodron during its Sunday service at 10:30 a.m.

Chodron, who established the Sravasti Abbey in Newport, will give the Dharma talk.

Financial classes

Audubon Park United Methodist Church, 3908 N. Driscoll Blvd., will offer Dave Ramsey’s “The Great Recovery,” today from 5 to 6 p.m.

The evening will be the kick-off event for Ramsey’s online streaming course.

Outside worship service

Lutheran Ministries Northwest and Community Lutheran will present an outdoor worship service Sunday across the street from Franklin Park at 123 W. Queen Ave.

The day will include a yard sale at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. It will also include refreshments and information about developing a home church or Bible study group.
