Brush fire rages in wind in Lincoln County

Fire being whipped by 25 mph winds was raging across western Lincoln County this afternoon, and state crews were being dispatched to the fire to help local fire crews. The fire was about four miles long and was burning mostly sagebrush in the vicinity of Kiner and Gibson Draw roads near the Grant County line, said Brian Schaeffer, assistant Spokane fire chief. “It’s running pretty quick,” Schaeffer said of the fire. A command team from Spokane County was called out to provide management expertise. Fire strike teams from the state Department of Natural Resources were being mobilized to help in the battle. A cold front was passing across the region today and is expected to keep winds blowing through the evening. Gibson Draw is northwest of Odessa.
