BOISE – Jorge Alfaro’s run-scoring double keyed a three-run fifth inning Monday and broke open a close game as the Spokane Indians ended the first half of the Northwest League season with a 8-2 win over the Boise Hawks (17-21).

The Indians finished with a 20-18 record and placed second in the East Division, two games behind the first-half champion Tri-City Dust Devils.

Spokane led 3-2 in the fifth when Alfaro doubled home Trever Adams, who led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a single by Yefry Castillo. Drew Robinson followed Alfaro with a sacrifice fly to make in 5-2 and Edwin Garcia’s two-out run-scoring single capped the scoring.

Adams staked the Indians to a 2-0 lead. He doubled home Hanser Alberto in the first and led off the third with his first home run of the season.

Santo Perez (5-1) picked up the victory. He tossed six innings and allowed four hits and two runs. Perez struck out two and walked one. Kyle Hendricks followed with two perfect innings and Christopher Hanna fired a scoreless ninth.
