Bandits win State Senior Legion opener
Sage Poland pitched a nine-inning complete game Tuesday as the Spokane Bandits began State Senior Legion baseball play with a 6-4 win over the Twin City Titans at Selah.
Poland struck out three, walked four and worked out of several jams as the Titans accounted for 12 hits.
David McNeil’s two-out RBI double down the left-field line in the ninth gave the Bandits (28-15) an insurance run.
Gerhard Muelheims singled and doubled for the Bandits.
Twin City entered with a 50-8 record.
The Bandits will meet the Hanford Flames at 4 p.m. today. Twin City will play a loser-out game at 9 a.m. against the Spokane Blue Devils, who opened with a 12-6 loss to Hanford.
Golf
Chris Williams (University of Washington/Moscow High) shot an opening-round 73 and is tied for 23rd place at the 45th Pacific Coast Amateur at Truckee, Calif. Williams is five shots off the lead at the four-day event.
