Area roundup: Bandits rally for victory at state Legion play

Matthew Miller’s sacrifice fly capped a three-run bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday as the Spokane Bandits rallied for a 7-6 win over the Hanford Flames on the second day of the American Legion Senior state tournament at Selah.

Gerhard Muelheims started the comeback with a single. Beau Bozett followed with a double, and Muelheims scored on David McNeil’s fielder’s choice.

Cameron Poland tied the game with an RBI single. The Flames intentionally walked Kyle Peckham to load the bases before Miller’s fly to center field.

Bozett and Muelheims were both 3 for 5.

The Bandits (29-15) will meet Bellingham at 7 p.m. today for a berth in the championship round.

Earlier, the Spokane Blue Devils stayed alive with an 11-7 win over the Twin Cities Titans (50-10). Sean Scholer went 2 for 5 with a homer, three RBIs and two runs for the Blue Devils, who meet Pepsi Pak at 3 p.m. today in another loser-out game.
