Leaking car fluid trail leads to arrests

Two men were arrested for burglary after an officer tracked down a vehicle fleeing from the pro shop at Esmeralda Golf Course early today. Spokane Police Officer Aaron Ames followed a fluid trail left by the fleeing vehicle after the driver attempted to elude him by cutting across Rypien Field in northeast Spokane just before 2 a.m. He traced the vehicle to Euclid Avenue and Lee Street where a K-9 team tracked down two men hiding nearby. Apartment residents had pointed out the direction of two fleeing men. Booked on charges of second-degree burglary were Dmitriy A. Stepanov, 26, and Andrey S. Lybakh, 23, both of Spokane.
