I-90 project nearly complete in East Spokane

By The Spokesman-Review

A bridge repair project on Interstate 90 in East Spokane is more than a week ahead of schedule and should be completed by Sunday, officials said today.

Road restrictions on I-90 from Altamont to Havana streets will be lifted in time for Monday’s morning commute, said Chad Simonson, engineer for the state Department of Transportation.

The job involved rebuilding overpass bridges at Havana and Altamont.

The contractor on the project, Westway Construction, of Medical Lake, had 30 working days to complete the project, which started July 11.

Incentives for early completion were included in the $941,000 contract, and Westway took advantage of those, Simonson said.

Traffic through the area has been limited to two lanes in each direction and seven on ramps and off ramps are closed during the work.
