Ubaldo Jimenez traded to Cleveland

Colorado Rockies right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez said he was traded to the Cleveland Indians – shortly after he pitched one inning for Colorado at San Diego on Saturday night.

Jimenez, who allowed four runs in the inning, said he was surprised he even pitched in the game.

Rockies spokesman Jay Alves said the deal with Cleveland wasn’t complete.

In a bizarre scene, Jimenez went to the mound to warm up after Troy Tulowitzki had hit a two-run homer in the top of the first. At the same time, Esmil Rogers began throwing in the Rockies’ bullpen.

The Indians, meanwhile, scratched top pitching prospect Drew Pomeranz, who apparently is part of the deal, from his scheduled start at Double-A Akron.

Lee traded from Orioles to Pirates

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Derrek Lee was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Orioles said they have sent Lee to Pittsburgh for minor league first baseman Aaron Baker.

Lee can give the surprising Pirates a smooth-fielding first baseman with a capable right-handed bat. Lee is batting .246 with 12 homers and 41 RBIs this season.

Phillies’ Polanco activated from DL

Philadelphia activated All-Star third baseman Placido Polanco from the disabled list and optioned outfielder Domonic Brown to the minors to make room for another All-Star, Hunter Pence.

A back injury sidelined Polanco on July 5.

Indians send Cabrera to San Francisco

Veteran infielder Orlando Cabrera was traded from Cleveland to the San Francisco Giants.

The Indians announced they had dealt Cabrera for Triple-A outfielder Thomas Neal minutes after their dramatic win over the Kansas City Royals.
