Whitworth basketball coach Matt Logie names Damion Jablonski as top assistant

New Whitworth men’s basketball coach Matt Logie named former Lehigh University colleague Damion Jablonski, a Gonzaga University graduate, as his top assistant coach.

Jablonski spent one season on the Mountain Hawks’ staff after three years in various coaching roles at Oakland University in Michigan.

Jablonski graduated from GU in 2000 and went on to work as an engineer at Ford Motor Company from 2001-2007. He grew up in Polson, Mont.

Track and field

Jon Lawson of Prairie, who won the 3A shot put and discus at the state track meet in Tacoma over the weekend, came to Spokane and won the Washington State High School Hammer Championship on Sunday.

Lawson, one of 47 throwers from 21 different schools, won his third-straight title with a spin of 202 feet, 9 inches at Spokane Falls Community College.

Sam Hacker of Gig Harbor was second at 202-9.

Sophomore Damon Unland of Ferris, the State 4A discus champion, was third (167-5) and Central Valley senior Kevin Stanley was fourth (165-0).

Sophie Hallam-Eames from Nathan Hale won the girls title with a state-best 143-7. Stephanie Goei of Shorewood was second at 127-9. Mead’s Michaelyn Mills was third (125-9) and CV’s Dakota Kliamovich fourth (122-5).
