In brief: Olson named principal at Coeur d’Alene High

From Staff Reports

Coeur d’Alene School District officials on Wednesday announced Coeur d’Alene High School’s new principal.

Warren Olson, who will “take the helm of the Viking ship,” is currently the principal of Fernan Elementary and was assistant principal for curriculum at Coeur d’Alene High School from 1998 to 2007, according to a school district news release. He also served there as a counselor from 1987 to 1998 and as an English teacher from 1977 to 1987.

“We were so fortunate to have such a high caliber of finalists for the position,” Superintendent Hazel Bauman said in the news release. “Warren is a well-respected leader within our district. Our interviewing team of administrators, teachers, staff and parents are excited for Warren to bring his innovative and nurturing style to CHS.”

The current principal, Randy Russell, is leaving to become superintendent of the Freeman School District.

Videos show suspects in Pullman robbery

Pullman police are asking for help identifying two men involved in a home-invasion robbery Tuesday.

Surveillance videos show the suspects, described as white men between the ages of 21 and 25.

One man wore jeans, a red undershirt and a black and white plaid long-sleeved shirt; the second man wore denim shorts, white shoes, a hat and a gray sweatshirt and had tattoos on his lower left leg.

The men are believed to have robbed a man at gunpoint at the Aspen Village Apartments in the 16000 block of N.E. Northwood Drive.

The robbers stole items and tied up the victim before leaving the home, police said. No one was injured. Police were called about 11 a.m.

A white woman with blond hair, a yellow shirt and a tattoo on the right side of her neck was seen with the suspects, who were believed to be driving a light-colored, midsize SUV.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Pullman Police Department at (509) 334-0802. View photos and videos of the suspects online at www.spokesman.com/blogs/sirens.

Coffee stand incidents yield voyeurism counts

Spokane Valley police arrested a Rathdrum man on two counts of voyeurism for allegedly fondling himself while videotaping the reaction of an East Trent Avenue coffee stand employee.

Matthew A. Lambert, 50, was booked into Spokane County Jail about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Police received a complaint earlier this week of a man who fondled himself while being served coffee at Dagny’s at 12900 E. Trent Ave.

Two officers waited in the coffee shop Tuesday to catch the man, but the alleged voyeur never showed.

On Wednesday, Officer Darin Powers was waiting in the coffee stand when Lambert arrived and “again began fondling himself inside his short pants,” police said.

He called for backup and Officer Eric Werner, stationed out of sight nearby, responded. The two arrested Lambert before he could flee, police said.

‘Hells Angels’ disallowed at felon’s upcoming trial

Prosecutors are prohibited from referencing the terms “Hells Angels,” “Mongols” and “gangs” in the upcoming trial of Ricky Jenks, sergeant-at-arms for the Washington state chapter of the Hells Angels.

U.S. District Judge Justin Quackenbush said federal prosecutors can refer to Jenks’ membership in a “motorcycle club” only. He said the other references “would be unfairly prejudicial and generate ‘more heat than light.’ ” Those orders were reiterated in pretrial documents filed last week.

Jenks’ trial, originally set to begin Tuesday, is now scheduled to begin July 11. He faces 10 years in prison if convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He has been in jail since his arrest March 4 during a raid at the Hells Angels’ Spokane clubhouse on East Sprague Avenue.

The raid came as tensions between the Hells Angels and Mongols were rumored to be heating up.
