Relinquished Former New York Rangers coach Colin Campbell is done serving as the NHL’s chief disciplinarian, Wednesday handing off one of the most thankless tasks in hockey to Brendan Shanahan. For the past 13 years, Campbell has handed out the league’s supplemental discipline – mostly suspensions and fines for dangerous play.

Ousted The Toronto Raptors announced that they will not exercise their option on coach Jay Triano’s contract. He will be retained as a consultant and a special assistant to president and general manager Bryan Colangelo.

Traded The Calgary Flames traded young defenseman Tim Erixon and a fifth-round pick in this month’s draft to the New York Rangers for junior forward Roman Horak and two second- round draft choices.

• The Los Angeles Sparks traded forward Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton to the Chicago Sky in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2012 WNBA draft.

Re-elected Stung by allegations of mismanagement and corruption, Sepp Blatter held onto his spot as the leader of world soccer, winning a one-man election in Zurich derided as a “coronation.” The 75-year-old from Switzerland, who has headed the sport nearly unchallenged for 13 years, struck a rare note of humility in a speech short on specifics that promised to reform an ethics committee and provide more transparency in decision making.

Announced Two-time Olympic beach volleyball champion Misty May-Treanor is returning to the international tour, one month after a sprained MCL forced her and teammate Kerri Walsh to withdraw from an event. May-Treanor wrote on her Facebook page that she was returning to Beijing with Walsh for next week’s Grand Slam event at the site of the Olympic tournament.

• Washington women’s basketball coach Kevin McGuff announced the addition of former Nebraska guard Kellie McCann-Smith, a native of Asotin and a graduate of Clarkston High. McCann-Smith, whose time at Nebraska was limited by a back injury, must sit out one season per NCAA transfer rules.
