Religion Notebook: Ride to benefit bike program

Cool Water Bikes, a nonprofit organization that refurbishes used bicycles to offer hope to youth on the streets, will present a poker ride fundraiser on June 11 starting at New Community Church, 1003 E. Trent Ave., Suite 140, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants will draw cards at various stations throughout the course along the Centennial Trail to form a poker hand.

The event will include a silent auction, raffle, games for kids and food will be available for purchase after the race. The poker ride is free, but donations will be accepted.

Italian dinner

The youth of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., will present “A Night in Italy,” an evening feast, Saturday at 5 p.m.

The meal will feature antipasto, rigatoni, chicken, Italian bread and spumoni. There will be music for dancing in the Great Hall.

The youth group is raising funds to attend the Triennial Episcopal Youth event this month in St. Paul, Minn.

The cost to attend is $20 and wine will be available for purchase.

Estate planning seminar

Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, 6910 S. Ben Burr Road, will present “Let’s Face It: Setting Things in Order for the End of Life,” an estate planning seminar Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A light lunch will be offered.

Topics will include wills and bequests, estate taxes, powers of attorney, burial planning, how to prepare for a funeral Mass or memorial service and how to designate gifts to organizations, churches or schools.
