Broadcast niche essential

Sunday evening, May 29, I watched the National Memorial Day Concert on KSPS, our Channel 7 connection to public broadcasting. This wonderful program honored all U.S. military troops for their efforts and sacrifices defending our country from World War II through the present day.

A former (9/11) New York City policeman sang “God Bless America.” There were all ages and races in attendance. The event was unifying and heartwarming, nothing similar anywhere else on television.

Patriotic music and personal stories brought tears to my eyes. And all without a Viagra, Budweiser or Pop-Tarts commercial. Then I remembered Republicans want to kill PBS, and also NPR. That brought more tears.
