Washington wins 14th national championship in men’s crew

CAMDEN, N.J. – Washington’s men’s crew program won its 14th national championship, dominating the varsity 8 final of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association national championships on the Cooper River.

The Huskies won the title in a time of 5 minutes, 30.623 seconds, almost 3 seconds ahead of second-place Harvard and California. It was UW’s third title in the past five years.

The Washington varsity 4+, open 4+ and second varsity 8 also won gold, and the freshman 8 finished second, giving the Huskies their fifth consecutive Ten Eyck Cup for accumulating the most points.

Gonzaga’s varsity 8+ ended the season finishing 17th in the nation with a fifth-place finish in the Third Level Final. The second varsity 8+ won a race-off against San Diego in the Third Level Final to rank 14th in the nation. The freshman 8+ finished fifth in its Third Level Final, good for 17th in the nation.
