Four Cougars, three Zags drafted by MLB

Four players from Washington State and three from Gonzaga were selected Tuesday during the second day of Major League Base- ball’s first-year player draft.

WSU pitcher Adam Conley led the way, picked in the second round by Florida.

Outfielder Derek Jones (Baltimore, 13th round), first baseman Taylor Ard (Boston, 25th round) and third baseman Matt Argyropoulos (Colorado, 27th round) were also selected out of WSU.

WSU recruit Ben Roberts, an outfielder from Missoula, was selected in the seventh round by Arizona.

Gonzaga pitchers Cody Martin (Atlanta) and Ryan Carpenter (Tampa Bay) were taken in the seventh round. Baltimore picked catcher Cameron Edman in the 29th round.

Two pitchers from NAIA Lewis-Clark State were chosen – Zach Arneson in the ninth round by the New York Yankees and Tyler Barrett in the 20th by Detroit.
