Register now for summer vacation Bible schools

Nina Culver, Ninac@Spokesman.Com

It must almost be summer, because Spokane Valley churches are already taking registrations for vacation Bible school sessions. The schools are an annual tradition, offering Bible instruction and fun for children looking for something to do during the summer months.

• St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 304 S. Adams Road, will host a Tri-Parish vacation Bible school from June 27 to July 1. It will include the congregations of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The theme of this year’s event is “Son Surf Beach Bash.” Children in pre-kindergarten through the fifth grade may attend classes from 8:45 to 11:45 a.m. each day.

The cost is $15 for the first child and $5 for each additional child. A T-shirt is included. Call St. Mary’s at (509) 928-3210, or ECOR at (509) 926-6450 for more information or to register.

• Opportunity Presbyterian Church will also host its VBS session June 27 to July 1. Classes for ages 3 years through fifth grade will be held each day from 9 a.m. to noon and will include lunch. Those who register by June 19 will get a T-shirt. The theme of the session is “Inside Out and Upside Down on Main Street.”

The cost is $10 per child or $30 per family. Scholarships are available. Call the church office at (509) 924-9750 to register or for more information. The church is at 202 N. Pines Road.

Garden blessing

The Veradale United Church of Christ, 611 N. Progress Road, will host its annual garden blessing ceremony at 11:45 a.m. Sunday. Volunteers tend the garden every summer and donate hundreds of pounds of produce to the Spokane Valley Partners Food Bank.

The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 15319 E. Eighth Ave., has been searching for a new pastor since the departure of the Rev. Brian Prior in December. Several candidates have been selected and one of them, the Rev. Mark Powell, will be at the 8 and 10 a.m. worship services on Sunday. Powell is the assistant rector of St. Andrews on the Sound in Wilmington, N.C.

Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Road, has switched to its summer worship schedule. There will now be one worship service at 9:15 a.m. each Sunday, followed by Sunday School for all ages at 10:45 a.m.
