Driver enters guilty plea

A DeSmet, Idaho, woman pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter on Tuesday in federal court in Coeur d’Alene.

Andrea George, 19, was speeding in her Honda Civic on April 19, 2010, on DeSmet Road when she hit and killed pedestrian Patrick Gourneau, according to a news release from the Idaho U.S. Attorney’s Office.

George was found to have been under the influence of alcohol, the release said.

The charge of involuntary manslaughter carries a maximum penalty of eight years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release.

Sentencing is set for Sept. 7 before U.S. District Judge Edward Lodge in Coeur d’Alene. The case was investigated by the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police, the Idaho State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
