In brief: Hackers nail CIA’s public website

WASHINGTON – A group of hackers who breached the Senate computer system earlier this week claimed responsibility for problems with the CIA’s website Wednesday.

The group, known as Lulz Security, tweeted “Tango down - CIA.gov,” and there were difficulties throughout the early evening accessing the agency’s website.

The computer mischief appeared to be targeting the CIA’s public website, which does not include classified data and has no impact on the CIA’s operation. CIA spokeswoman Marie Harf said the agency is looking into the reports.

On Monday, the group accessed a Senate server that supports the chamber’s public website but did not breach other files, according to a Capitol Hill law enforcement official. The hackers said it was a “just for kicks” attempt to help the government “fix their issues.”

TSA investigating stowaway situation

PITTSBURGH – Authorities say a US Airways employee was stopped in Pittsburgh after allegedly stowing away on an earlier flight from Florida to North Carolina.

Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that the employee was stopped shortly before noon on Tuesday after getting off a flight in Pittsburgh.

The Transportation Security Administration said it’s investigating whether the employee improperly used his airport credentials to get on a flight traveling from Tampa, Fla. to Charlotte, N.C.

Moffatt said the employee, whose name was not released, apparently had a ticket for the flight to Pittsburgh. He said the man asked to be taken for a psychiatric evaluation. No charges are planned.

Online post describes shooting rapper

NEW YORK – New York City police are investigating an online posting supposedly from a convicted felon who claims to have shot and robbed slain rapper Tupac Shakur.

The report was posted on AllHipHop.com. The person claims he was paid by another hip-hop mogul to rob Shakur outside a Manhattan studio in 1994. Shakur suffered gunshot wounds but eventually recovered. He was later killed in 1996 in an unsolved slaying.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, a person by the same name as in the post is serving life in prison at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
