Inflammatory economics

Rebecca Larsen (Letters, June 6) seems to suggest that smaller government and lower taxes “would enable greater economic growth.” But expecting to promote economic growth by eliminating public-sector jobs is like using kerosene to put out a fire.

If she is concerned about borrowing “so much in the future,” that concern can be addressed by raising taxes rather than cutting jobs for teachers, postal workers and other public service employees.
