Tech services company moving

Hughes Computers owners oversee four companies

If Janet and Charles Hughes were running just one business, they’d be fine. But the couple, along with four workers, run four tech businesses, and they need space to grow.

They’re relocating the company’s business group from an office on 57th Street to a larger office on Regal Street, on Spokane’s South Hill.

Hughes Computer Services Inc., the parent firm, will be in a 2,200-square-foot retail office at the Southgate Shopping Center, 4526 S. Regal.

They’re taking over space last used by the Hair Co.

Their four businesses are Hughes Computer Services, which sells and repairs PCs and offers disk and data recovery; Cougar Wireless, which installs and services wireless Internet access; Robar.com, which offers remote data backup and recovery; and CPA Secure, a service for secure transfer of financial and accounting records.

Of the four, Cougar Wireless has been the fastest-growing – 250 percent growth from one year ago, Charles Hughes said. All four, as a group, are up about 145 percent year over year, he said.

A large share of the increasing business for Cougar Wireless comes from installations for residents in rural areas south and east of the city, he said.

As the wireless work increases, the company needs more storage for cables and hardware.

“Our tower climbers who do installs are seeing their storage area getting cramped,” he said. The new space will provide much more space for hardware, he added.

Chris Bell of NAI Black represented the owner in the lease.

Flamin’ Joe’s coming to South Hill

Sally Guthrie, who owns two Spokane-area Flamin’ Joe’s restaurants, will open a third on the South Hill later this summer.

Guthrie is leasing 4,400 square feet at 2620 E. 29th Ave., a space last used by Chapala’s Restaurant. She has signed a 10-year lease with property owner Black Enterprises.

Her other Joe’s are on North Division and in Spokane Valley.

Guthrie said the South Hill can benefit from a “family-style” dining option. She said the restaurant will have roughly 135 seats.

Atlas Supply office moves

Atlas Supply’s Spokane office has moved from 3627 E. Springfield to a larger warehouse at 12918 E. Indiana.

Headquartered in Seattle, the company is a wholesale distributor of sealants, adhesives and construction coating material.

The new warehouse will take about 8,000 square feet. Brokers were Earl Engle of NAI Black and David Dowers of Dowers Real Estate Group.

Freshwater fish store migrates

Guppy Tales, a North Spokane freshwater fish and aquarium store, is moving to 612 W. Garland, owner and manager Tina Hammond said.

The store opened a year and a half ago at 3803 N. Division St., and Saturday will be the final day at that location, Hammond said. The grand opening on Garland will be July 1 and 2.

Guppy Tales will downsize from 2,000 to 650 square feet and focus more on freshwater exotics. Those include species such as cichlids, knifefish, freshwater stingrays, discus, angelfish, ropefish and brackish offerings.

The business also plans more in-house events such as children’s activities, training and education programs.
