Students, staff, family and friends of Skyview Elementary said farewell to the school on June 10 with an “Aloha Goodbye Celebration.”

The party wasn’t filled with sadness, but celebrated the 29 years that the school has been open. The East Valley School District made the decision to close Skyview after declaring a fiscal emergency.

In the gym, complete with a DJ and decorated in a tropical theme, teachers in leis and grass skirts served ice cream and later gathered onstage for a special performance. The fun continued with the chicken dance, where everyone joined in and had a good time.

Prizes were awarded, students signed each other’s T-shirts and stories were shared.

Skyview students will attend either Otis Orchards or Trentwood elementary schools next year. The district’s Continuous Curriculum School will continue to be housed in the former Skyview building.
