Shock’s Meyer has concussion

Football: Spokane Shock quarterback Erik Meyer suffered a concussion during Saturday’s win over Chicago, a team spokesperson said. Meyer’s status for Saturday’s road game against New Orleans will be determined later this week.

Meyer was injured while making a tackle on an interception return by Perry Kyles early in the third quarter. Reserve Steven Sheffield finished up the game to become the seventh Shock player to take quarterback snaps this season.

In roughly six quarters of action since being acquired in a trade, Meyer had 12 touchdown passes, two interceptions and a passer rating of 129.1. The former Eastern Washington Eagle was sidelined with a pinched nerve last season when he was Spokane’s No. 2 quarterback.

Kyle Rowley (shoulder) and Bill Stull (knee) were injured in last month’s win over Dallas. Both went on injured reserve and were eligible to return last week.

CenturyLink is the new Qwest

Licensing: What was originally known as Seahawks Stadium when it opened in 2002, then renamed Qwest Field in 2004, has a new name – CenturyLink Field.

That’s as many names as the Seahawks have had head coaches since the stadium built on the site of the former Kingdome opened its doors.

The announcement of the name change came Monday. A news conference to unveil the new logo will be held Thursday.

Qwest was purchased by CenturyLink in April.

Qwest purchased naming rights to the stadium in 2004 in a sponsorship deal that runs through 2014 with a five-year renewal option, reportedly paying an estimated $75 million. The fact the deal might run out in three years, though, means there’s no guarantee the new name will last for long.
