Unburden Postal Service
The media from time to time take liberties with the facts or take information out of context. This applies to news about the U.S. Postal Service. For decades, not years, the Postal Service has been operating without contributions from the federal government as many would have you believe. No federal money has gone to the USPS.
Moving ahead to 2007, your Postal Service has been paying at least $5.5 billion a year into a fund for prepayment into the retiree health benefits fund. This fund currently contains $42 billion. No other entity, public or private, has to contribute like this. Another serious overcharge comes from the Office of Personnel Management struggling like many other businesses; removing these burdens would eliminate the debt we have.
Please contact your congressional representative, for most of us Cathy McMorris Rodgers. Tell her to support HR 1351, a bill that would help the USPS regain financial stability. This is truly a bipartisan bill with over 100 co-sponsors. Remember, this is not government money. We are alive and can be well if Congress will do the right thing.
