SPOKANE — The NBA draft is Thursday and once again a basketball player from an Eastern Washington team is expected to be selected in the first round.
Klay Thompson of Washington State is projected as a first rounder by most experts. His teammate DeAngelo Casto is also eligible for the draft, but not projected as a selection.
Gonzaga has had three first round draft picks since 2002. That was the year Dan Dickau was picked, followed in 2006 by Adam Morrison and 2009 by Austin Daye. The Bulldogs saw Ronny Turiaf and Blake Stepp both drafted in the second round in 2005 and 2004.
Even Eastern Washington University got into the act when Rodney Stuckey was drafted by Detroit in the first round in 2007.
On the women’s side, Gonzaga’s Courtney Vandersloot was a first round pick by the WNBA earlier this year.
