Granted A federal judge in San Francisco on Thursday gave prosecutors more time to decide whether home run record-holder Barry Bonds should face another perjury trial. Bonds’ criminal trial ended inconclusively April 13 when a jury convicted the seven-time MVP on an obstruction of justice count but deadlocked on three perjury charges. U.S. District Judge Susan Illston granted prosecutors’ request for more time to decide whether to try the case again, over the objections of Bonds’ attorney, Allen Ruby.
Ordered The authors of the Mitchell Report on performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball were ordered to give pitching legend Roger Clemens more of the evidence they used to accuse him of using steroids and human growth hormone. U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton, in a ruling filed in Washington, said Clemens needs the investigators’ notes of interviews with his accusers to defend himself in a criminal trial next month.
Hired Former Washington women’s basketball coach Tia Jackson has been hired as an assistant at Rutgers. Jackson will replace longtime assistant Carlene Mitchell, who left last month to become coach at UC Santa Barbara. Jackson left Washington in March, resigning after posting a 45-75 record in four seasons.
• Boston College assistant Joe Jones has been hired by Boston University to be its men’s basketball coach. The school announced that Jones would replace Patrick Chambers, who left early this month after two years to become head coach at Penn State.
Announced New York Jets backup quarterback Erik Ainge says he is moving on from his football playing career because of injuries to his right foot and throwing shoulder.
Promoted Northwest Missouri State has promoted offensive coordinator and assistant head football coach Adam Dorrel to head coach. The Maryville school says Dorrel will be introduced today as the successor to Scott Bostwick, who died June 5 of an apparent heart attack. Bostwick had just been appointed in December to succeed longtime head coach Mel Tjeerdsma, who retired.
