Greed’s taking us down

I’m responding to “Income bias on display” (Letters, June 15.) True, many “liberals” make less money than many “conservatives” do. Many of us chose occupations that allow us to serve others. We care more about “the good of the country.”

Large corporations and the wealthiest people should pay their share. Greed may be the biggest problem this country has. You’d think a few million (not billions) in annual profits would be enough.

I am horrified about the direction that the Republicans are taking the country. They cater to banks, oil companies, the insurance business, etc. Both parties need to stop “fighting” for us and start working together. We need reasoned debate to make good decisions.

Take health care for example. Ours is the most expensive, not the best, health care in the world. Insurance companies ration health care by restricting treatments they will pay for. A guy with an MBA makes those decisions for you. People make choices between health care and basic essentials daily. We need to get insurance companies out of the health care business so money goes to providing care instead of CEO bonuses.

I am a nurse. My student loans are paid.
