Clouds won’t stop warm weather today

Partly sunny skies with broad areas of clouds won’t stop temperatures from warming up today. Highs in downtown Spokane could reach 85 degrees with 83 expected in Coeur d’Alene. A low pressure area moving into northern California is allowing clouds and warmer air to move northward, including a layer of cumulus clouds that forecasters said are not likely to produce any showers today. Overnight lows will remain mild in the middle 50s. On Wednesday, the storm in California produces a pulse of cooler air that could trigger showers and thunderstorms over North Idaho and the eastern third of Washington. Highs will drop back to the middle 70s in Coeur d’Alene and Spokane with a 40 percent chance of showers. The showers may linger Wednesday night and early Thursday in North Idaho. Thursday and Friday will see the sun come back, but highs will only reach about 70 with lows in the middle 40s. Improving weather is expected through the July Fourth holiday weekend with highs quickly going into the 80s on Saturday and staying there through Monday. At 7 a.m., it was 63 at Spokane International Airport, 62 at Felts Field and in Deer Park and 61 in Coeur d’Alene and Pullman.
