Fire Station 13, cook Yuen are finalists in cook-off

Firehouse cook Tony Yuen and Spokane Fire Department Station No. 13 are finalists in America’s Best Firehouse BBQ Cook-Off.

Sponsored by Tree Top, the contest asked entrants to make a short video to convince America that their firehouse and recipe deserve the $10,000 grand prize.

The Spokane video features cook Yuen, his recipe for Tony Puleihu BBQ Sauce and the crew of Station No. 13 in a fun look at firehouse cooking and dining. Yuen grew up in Hawaii and his recipe for Hawaiian grilling sauce starts with Tree Top Apple Juice, which sponsored the contest.

People are invited to watch videos from the 10 finalists and vote for their favorite video and recipe through July 29. Only one vote per day will be allowed to help choose the People’s Choice winner at http://americas bestfirehousebbq.com.

The grand prize winner of the cookoff will be selected by a panel of judges, which includes Audra Lowe from BetterTV, BBQ Addicts and author of “BBQ Makes Everything Better”; and Allison Parker, a registered dietitian and director of consumer health and education for the U.S. Apple Association.

One vote on the judging panel will go to the winner of the People’s Choice vote online.
